your painting found its way into the poshest part of London: South Kensington (the building on the right is the Iraqi embassy, V&A is just around the corner). Note to your students: Maybe he doesn’t need to be stabbed but could you send over an ear?

Congratulations to Holger Pirk () for winning the Gong Show! Hopefully that painting will triple in value if/when one of my student stabs me. Photos by Stefan Manegold.

I've been "helped" with a lot of generic links by the support team already. I've checked this one and my problem isn't even mentioned. The problem is that no-one at Amazon has understood my problem or even taken the time to try. This is why power users hate tech support!

Does anybody know how to display the current location in the kindle iOS app? The support certainly doesn’t (but will happily feed you some BS for@an hour before they admit it).

Well, it did play it’s role in convincing me that databases are cool. Had I spent the time learning the intricacies of the xml type system, I may have received a better grade but might have decided to have a different career. So, the apology may or may not be warranted :-).

I actually had a class on xml databases and I felt a good way to prepare for the exam was to implement a staircase join (it did not help)

I guess the key takeaway is: type faster to make sure it breaks before the warranty runs out! More proposal writing? :-)

This happened to me three times: first time double blinded, second time single blinded, third time double blinded again. By then I knew who the authors were and had to have myself declared COI. I think the paper still got rejected. I guess the process works at some level.
