but they also need to bring all the R&D in house so that costs money rather than outsourcing it to intel.

theoretically moving to apple silicon could let apple do this again. The modern 5k iMacs cant do it since they needed a custom display controller to make the screen work and you could not talk to that over a regular DP signal.

It will depend if the apps themselves tell users to get settap then it’s an issue.

Apple being universal does not make it work on iPad. What you need is the UI framework app kit to be on iPad!

Far too excited about this screenshot of ’s Nova — it looks gorgeous. Does this mean full Django support? And when‘s it out? 🙃

The explosions and fires in Lebanon destroyed almost all of their grain reserves. Humanitarian crisis imminent. Very messy indeed.

it is much more likely these days to have a source in ARM ISA than in x86 so (for the small number of units that teach lower level CS) apple silicon macs will be a some advantage over using a raspberry pie.

It is possible they don’t outperform on single threaded tasks but rather just push devs even harder to multi thread. There are 180core ARMcpus already shipping this year apple could just buy them if all else fails for the Mac Pro

No they will already have iMac and Xeon competitors in house before they green lit this.

I have a feeling that apple might have found a way in hardware to reduce the overhead of VMs a lot as well. Also the fast that VM guests are getting graphical acceleration is a big big deal!
