Yep remember Steve McRae saying that in HIS opinion, the Stanford philosophy text defining "atheist" and"agnostic" were his definitions, as it was "more concise?"
It just isn't how people are using it, and his pedantic position was basically dumb, and ignored important questions.

Me either. Apparently I have to read a book about it, by a guy I despise, in order to "truly know" what SE is NOW, and how it is used by everyone who uses it.
Sounds fishy to me.

By the way, do we define "atheist" as someone who says definitively that there are no gods?
I have a book that says that's what it means.

Ok. I'll do the work. It seems I've missed something crucial about the goals and methods, only watching non-Boghossian people do this stuff. Do I agree with, or even like the people doing it? Not necessarily. But I'm open to changing my mind about what SE is.
Are you?

It's a definition thing?
Ok, let's use YOUR definition of SE. Can you define it, as YOU see it?

Well, ok. I don't read a lot of books like that, but if you say I must, I'll get the ebook version.
Don't make me read Nietzche though. Despite some of his ideas having validity, the Jew killing isn't one of them.

So, I'll define the term SE, as I use it, here: a conclusion that might not be backed up by sound epistemology that is challenged.
Sorry to make all of you jump all over me because of a term that I used that you didn't understand. Happens to trans people all the time.

You didn't get my original argument, because you misunderstood my reference to SE as a way to challenge epistemology of a certain political belief.
Isn't that right?

My hand? Sounds conspiratorial to me.
I evangelize for sound epistemology, in all areas (or don't you believe me, because part of my "hand" involves lying to you?)

btw, the conversation started when i suggested using SE as a way to challenge the belief of Kyle, which sounded like a belief not supported by sound epistemology, in which I was agreeing with you. Not religion.

Yeah, philosophy in general is a term we give to thinking about thinking. Seems "thinking" and "beliefs about the world" are significant topics these days, with rising fascism. Ask a Trump voter how he came to believe that black people are evil. Only interesting answers allowed.

Yep. They tell the person that they are interviewing that they don't want their own personal beliefs to alter the way they answer a question. Sounds honest to me.

Yeah, there's a problem with the title.
Also, the Boghossian thing is an example of the genetic fallacy. I was asked if I was stupid about philosophy, with a Plato question. Does the fact that Schopenhauer and Nietzche were rabid antisemites make their"self" observations invalid?

Yeah. It's used in educational settings to give students the ability to think through problems, rather than regurgitating the answers to them. As an educator, it's quite useful.

It's about how you come to a conclusion about something. What is it that clinched the decision on something for you. You can use it for anything. When people think about it, most of the time they say it's because they have evidence of that belief working in the past. Like gravity
