A kingfisher on a rainy winters day at Hemel Hempstead water gardens. I only had my iPhone on me.

I’m using a Sony RX10IV at the moment for all my photography. It’s portable, very fast and has good autofocus.

I went out looking for kestrels again this morning. So beautiful they need the full pics and the close crop.

I checked on different location this morning and saw this juvenile kingfisher that is probably only a few weeks out of the nest. Great to see another success story for this years breeding season.

Yes. They pair up in winter and start courtship behaviour in February. Often there are some battles for territory and mates. Then they start mating around early April and first broods come in May. It varies from bird to bird and by location.
