Here's something to tide you over: This interview with Nintendo producer Takashi Kawaguchi talks about Pokémon's initial development. As it turns out, Tajiri's friend and producer, Tsunekazu Ishihara, helped resume the game's development after 3 years.

In this interview with Satoshi Tajiri and Tsunekazu Ishihara, Ishihara tells how American staff tried to redesign the "overly cute" Pokémon for Americans, such as... a tabby cat-like humanized Pikachu with large breasts, like something out of Cats. (!?)

And for the icing on the cake, here's the original fanmade sprite before being edited to look like it was from one of the development polls:

Not real. The sprite's midtones are too clear to be from a real poll photocopy, and the name is uneven while the sprite is level. Plus, the kana usage is wrong. ヒイプー hiipuu should be like ヒープー or even ヒップー hippuu if they want to be more accurate.

The large image posted in the thread is somewhat outdated too, "Arita" turned out to be "Arida", south of Osaka and west of Shingu (around Route 34 in final GS).

Yeah it's real, just be careful with stuff like that. Symbols and internal documents in particular are something we don't want to directly possess or release and even talking about the information within is difficult.

I have located, dumped and preserved the only remaining undumped US Nintendo DS kiosk demo! Pokémon Dash's demo is so incredibly rare (previously only 1 known copy in the world!) that nobody has managed to find nor dump it until now. Get it here:

I recently came across Pokémon stickers from a 1998 Nintendo press kit. These seem to have early English names for some of the Pokémon. Check it out ~ (1 of 2)

Looks like the standard English manual badly translated for a bootleg.

Oh, and by the way... If you have any concrete ideas for name origins that we weren't able to find, please let us know in the replies or article comments! If it is deemed probable, we will append the article and credit you if you'd like. Thanks for reading!

Today we have a new article about a severely underlooked batch of files within your favorite Wii game... The cries in Pokémon Battle Revolution!? But that can only mean... PROTOTYPE NAMES FOR GEN 4.

We looked into it: -Some Gen 5s might have been placed into empty Gen 4 slots due to the size of the gen. -Neither this or the model index appear to be the creation order now, both appear to be based on some unseen list. -No idea why Giratina and Palkia are so far removed.

You'll have to wait for Fearow to appear in a Gen 8 game, Rapidash you can teach the move right now. The lists were extracted last night here, they're not visible in Home to regular users:

While the TM/TR lists found in Home do appear to be non-finalized, there is one neat touch: Fearow finally has access to Pay Day again (as does Rapidash in SwSh). This is a reference to a semi-obscure Gen 1 event based on the Fan Club Chairman's Pokemon where they knew Pay Day.

This list is interesting but it seems somewhat scrambled. Fraxure was allegedly the first Pokemon created for Gen 5 and it appears after a bunch of Gen 5s who appear before Arceus' forms which were in DP.

There was an index order in the sprites released a month ago, it went: Munchlax Bonsly Mime Jr. Weavile Lucario Mantyke Buizel Chatot Buneary Roserade Tangrowth Dusknoir Mamoswine Froslass Glameow Turtwig Chimchar Piplup Budew Starly Electivire and matched with the doll index.
