"Games Journalist" is the derogatory term they use for me. Usually at PCWorld, occasionally elsewhere. haydendingman@gmail.com

Maybe I only find that stuff more interesting because I've written a lot of reviews and know the beats people are going to (with rare exception) hit? But I feel like reviews are generally too restrictive to talk about stuff like Getting Over It, or Celeste, or Disco Elysium.

Reviews are probably the least interesting way people talk about games at this point, I think because a certain subset of the audience decided "Reviews can only be [THIS]" and complains whenever that mold is broken. So you get a lot more anecdotal or personal writing instead.

I think maybe you're conflating reviews with worth though? Getting Over It absolutely dominated the conversations I saw between critics for a month after release. I played it every day for two months, heard about it on podcasts, saw it on Twitter, written up on numerous sites.

Not really disputing your thesis here. There are many niches that don't get reviewed. But reviews have changed as well. There isn't much I'd "review" critically in HuniePop or in most survival games. Write about anecdotally? Sure. My Summer Car got a lot of that. But review? Nah

Some of these are early access. Some of these are common blindspots (i.e. golf/sports). Some of these (or rather one of these) is a porn game with a match-3 layer.

I'm sure you didn't play Sinking City because it was...well, not great. But Frogwares not only mentioned Lovecraft was racist, they then tried to tell a story that subverted some of his more racist allegories. They didn't nail it even a little bit, but I found it interesting.

This is also why I'm not playing XIV. If they're going to redo a major part of the game, I guess I'll just...wait to jump in?

It's okay though, because as Lorena Gonzalez was nice enough to point out, all these freelances jobs leaving CA "aren't jobs." That's me told.

Yeah you can only have one controller at a time connected through Bluetooth. PlayStation controllers are the same way. It's a Bluetooth limitation, unfortunately.

Yeah I haven't had any trouble, though I still usually pair with the dongle because my desktop doesn't have built-in Bluetooth support. Were you using the old Xbox One controllers, from before they added Bluetooth support? That's all I can think of. At least the dongle is cheap.

Pistol Whip is a neat spin on the Beat Saber concept but until you've tired of Beat Saber you might as well stick with that. Also a lot easier to mod Beat Saber. Haven't noticed any download issues but I tend to keep the Quest up to date these days for Link compatibility reasons.

The Vader stuff isn't incredible per se, kind of gimmicky, but it's a decent thrill ride if you're into Star Wars. Moss, A Fisherman's Tale, and Red Matter are also great. And if you didn't pick up a Link cable (or a Link compatible cable) I highly recommend it.

Some thoughts on Sony (maybe) making a late play for the PC, Microsoft and Xbox's growing influence in that space over the course of this console generation, and the slow erosion of the PC as neutral territory.

Yeah, I think the biggest issue with them is if the drill does slip out of the screw it's usually when you're at full bore and it just wrecks the screw head in an instant.

And if you're curious why they look like this, it's because (to my knowledge) they're harder to strip. When I was building a deck they were the high-end option.
