I get to work with a lot of turtles in my line of work. They’re good conservation-education partners. But meeting this old turtle on a rural road in Indiana a few years back still bounces around my memory chambers from time to time.

a day late for - but here is the sawback turtle Prionochelys! This early sea turtle is from the Cretaceous of Arkansas and Alabama, and had large spines on its shell margins like a hawksbill sea turtle - had another row on its back - maybe for protection?

Happy ! The diamondback terrapin is a brackish water species ranging from Maine to Texas. One of their biggest threats is drowning in crab pots. Simple cheap bycatch reduction devices can save lives of thousands, yet only 2/17 states in their range require them!
