Check out the veteran tagged by the ! As with most wader species, woodcock can be long-lived and migrate many thousands of km in their lives. It won't be long at all until the migrants begin to describe on Ireland again for the winter 🤩

Have I found a winter fieldwork site?? Great habitat, willing landowner and no woodcock hunting in the winter. Sounds good to me! Just need to wait until November to confirm that there will be sufficient number of here for my research.

I'm deep in the heart of deepest Ulster looking for winter fieldwork sites. This site is great habitat, and holds lots of in winter (and is farmed by my uncle 👍), but will it be suitable for my research? 🤔 Gotta chat to the local hunters to find out

It’s very worrying when UK shooters are happy to kill - a rapidly declining species in UK. Yes high % of those killed will be wintering migrants but some will be our resident breeding birds.
