White Island volcano eruption. This is video we were taking as our boat tried to get us a safe distance before going back for survivors. It didn’t dawn on us right away what had just happened or that there were still people were still on the island.

Middlemore Hospital in Auckland is doing it hard. Send muffins, cakes, pizzas etc to operating theatre, ICU or the National Burns Unit to reach staff who are working huge hours and probably being asked to cancel Christmas leave.

Pilot Jason Hill & his crew want to return to White Island. He helped evacuate people on Monday. He knows the island well & would have gone back to retrieve victims over the past 2 days. Another pilot has said the same thing.

Helicopter pilot Jason Hill who rescued people off White Island told further emergency staff were forced to stand down (by comms) before he and others on the island had even made contact with the mainland. This changes what police have told the public.
