A 'trench art' candle holder crafted from the cartridge of a German 77mm shell, dated 1917. Whilst generally known as 'trench art' these items were not, of course, created 'in the trenches', but in workshops and rest camps well behind the lines or indeed in England.

This piece of from our was made from a โ€‘era artillery shell and a 37mm cartridge case. Itโ€™s decorated with the insignia of the 89th Division and has text on it that reads: โ€œMeuse Argonne Drive, Sept. 28, 1918.โ€
