On this day in 1982: Mr. Bliss was published. An illustrated story by J.R.R. , it tells of Mr. Bliss's (mis)adventures in his new yellow car and we meet the Girabbit, Mr Day and Mrs Knight, three bears and even "Gaffer Gamgee"!

On this day in 1937, J.R.R. ’s was published. The story of The Hobbit began in the 1920s when Tolkien was marking papers, of which on the back of one he wrote the words: "In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit.”
