Why the in Massachusetts and Connecticut? ❄️ Within the dry slot, some warmer air is moving in (left). That helped to tighten the temperature gradient at the mid levels (right), resulting in “frontogenetic forcing” that enhanced lift/snowfall rates too.⛄️ Boom. ⚡️

With the strong frontogenesis in eastern Massachusetts tomorrow and good CAA (cold air advection) on the backside of the departing low, theta-e surfaces could slope more steeply than momentum surfaces in the comma head. The result? Conditional symmetric instability/.

Not trying to steal anyone's thunder, but there's a familiar beer back on shelves. Thundersnow hits distribution today everywhere MadTree is sold. Our Scottish ale with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and vanilla beans makes for a nice & toasty winter beer.

Total snowfall projected with a very healthy surge of moisture pushing in on its leading edge arriving in S. Vermont mid afternoon. Snowfall really picks up in the evening...but northern half of the state much lighter amounts projected. possible Sunday Eve.

For the record, every single event I witnessed personally and documented scientifically in has been a self-initiated upward lightning flash from the towers in town during heavy snow and strong wind. 2/2

Heard a rumble in Taunton. Didn’t pay attention enough for a flash though.

Thunder, lightning, and pouring rain in KS. It’s too bad that it’s too warm for snow, would have been fun.
