[Thread on personal health information and social media] I recently noticed that I started seeing advertisements for clinical trials for a drug against a specific health condition that I was discussing with a friend.

For example, it could be sold to health insurance providers that might deny coverage or make it more expensive. Or it could be shared with employers or other people you may not want to know about your health condition.

Or even more simply, people could infer the state of your health if they happen to see the ads for related drugs or trials when you connect you computer screen to a TV or projector.

But the freaky part is this. We only spoke about it. I never searched for the condition on Google. Never texted anybody about it. Never wrote about it on my social media. And yet, I see advertisements for the trials.
