My fingers grasped the thick spine, and I drew out a book bound in green linen. As I ran my thumb along the page edges, they flipped in an oddly perfect, rhythm, fanning my warm neck. The book fell open to an illustration. My breath caught.

Davy & I had our 2nd date at the movies. Walking to the balcony, our shoes stuck to the floor. Our thumbs pushed & danced in foreplay during the Newsreel. By time 007 showed up—our kissing was with Shirley Bassey & my popcorn had fallen to the sticky floor.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Her hand was weak and frail in mine. "I've never been more sure of anything." I smiled at her, my beautiful, tenacious, fading child. I watched the monitors as our heartbeats : my strength becoming hers; her weakness mine.

Martin loved his wife, it was true. Sometimes, though, he liked to rile her up. Get her good & mad, until she blew. She spoke in a way, you see, dropping sounds like d and t. The cadence of her voice, the stomp of her feet, made Mar'ins heart skip a beat.

In the beginning there was the Rhythm God. He dropped a glorious beat on the dark deep, lit up the night and got the Garden swinging. All was good in 4/4 time, room for the Holy Ghost when A & E danced. But the Funk Devil the music, taught those two to grind.

The needle descended on the black vynil surface, and on came a rhythm. He tapped his foot twice, whirled once and picked up the scalpel.

I took a look at today's word & thought about applying it to yesterday's word which would make 'oslate' but being a punctual person I didn't like this, so I tried to sink my balding pate into the nearest wall, thus . All it did was give me a blinding headache.

I loved her the most in those moments between the passions when all she did was glance at me out of the corner of her eye with a fleeting smile.

One, two, three, four. As in music, it’s not the beats that bring us to life. Not births, weddings, divorces, deaths, but the detail in between. It’s what happens in the “a-and-a” of one-a-and-a-two-a-and-a-three-a-and-a-four-a-and-a that makes us truly alive.

Ignoring the interruption, the hawk continued--As i was trying to say, nights in that city were magic. The wolf-man and Ivy the snake-girl were caught up in the rhythm of the crowd, the colors and the lights, moving to the off-beat vibe.
