This photo of "The Babbies" in Roker Park is pre-WWII. In the distance on the left are trucks running down to the North Dock. The houses in Roker Park Road are very few (still there today) and Redby School can be seen on the horizon to the right of picture.

Here's a shot of Moss Lane in Victorian times. It was a "steep and narrow lane" leading from High Street to Low Street and the river. Once known as Bear Lane - possibly relating to the hideous practice of bear baiting, once popular in in the 17th and 18th centuries.
