I was told in HS that I shouldn’t go into meteorology because there weren’t jobs/money and that I should apply myself elsewhere... Not everything in life is about the $$ - if you can find a career in something you’re passionate about, then chase that role

I was told by a physics teacher in high school to not go into science because girls can’t do math or physics. I’m a girl who now has a degree in meteorology with a minor in math.

Someone once told me that I should just major in Journalism because I have the “beauty for TV” but not the “brain for Meteorology”. So I got accepted to one of the best programs in the country and am over halfway done with my degree. (They’re in jail 🤔)

I was told by my Physics 1 professor to get out of Meteorology because I wasn't doing well in his class. Obviously, I didn't listen, and I succeeded in the meteorology classes that used Physics 1 concepts 😂Today I am a *thriving* MS student considering a PhD

I once received an 85 on a test in a core undergraduate Atmospheric Science class, and the professor said that because I did not make an A that I would never succeed in graduate school. I’m currently a 3rd year PhD Candidate.

A day late.... but probably the worst thing was hearing peers talking behind my back saying I wouldn’t make it in the program... Graduating in 35 days and your hurtful words gave me more determination!

And some even suggest that there aren’t jobs in the field. Yes, there are! And, AtmoSci is one of the most data-driven fields. The skills you learn in this field translate to anything working with data. Employers - you want to hire these young professionals!
