Things will get better when... I get into grad school I find a thesis lab I pass my qualifying exam Kill this mentality. Stress always finds you. Invest in finding ways to mediate it. Don’t pool all your effort into overcoming the next hurdle.

Be a mentor who tells their students "I think you're an excellent candidate for this", and repeats that to others when their students aren't in the room.

When I interviewed, I took a picture of the medical school just in case I would never see it again. To my URMs: Do not have this mentality when you interview. You belong there! The real question is whether or not it’s a good fit for you.

I got sent this today and I feel it’s my moral obligation to share it in these dark times. If you need a slice of scientific/dog joy this morning, this is it. 😭❀️

Had my first experience telling a former mentee he’s an author on my manuscript. Turns out he’s applying for grad programs so this should help him out. What a solid feeling.

Grasping the "hidden academic language" can be challenging, especially for scholars. I've been proactive is overcoming this! I ask Faculty mentors to review my writing (e.g. letters to potential advisors). It really makes a difference!

My PI sent an email to me and the other lab volunteer thanking us for our time, letting us know we are both doing a really great job, and updating us on the progress of the research. πŸ₯Ί This is routine for him, it’s still nice to hear.

Hungry Hirudinaria manillensis at its second dinner. In the back you see Richardsonianus australis. The leeches had the same size 3 weeks ago ;)
