Reflecting on today- what a fantastic team we have in Franklin County Schools! I am blessed to work with a great group of people who are passionate about kicking off a new school year with excitement and positivity. Can’t ask for more than that!

Having former students come to chat during recess really makes my day! I’m surprised they come back after I always make them tell me one thing they learned that day 😂❤️❤️

I asked a student how her summer was and she said it was good and bad. The bad part was her mother died but she was happy to finally be back at school to see me and everyone else. I fought back tears as I hugged her and sent her on to class.

Last night while reading parent surveys, I noticed not a single parent said knowing content or strategies made a good teacher, in fact the most common words used were “patient and caring”. This is even more proof relationships matter!

I asked these young men what their favorite part of school was so far and they said they were so excited to have a male teacher. This was their first time ever since starting school. Wow!! They pay attention to everything!!

If you start with investing in relationships with your students, you can get them to do anything. Major in building relationships with young people instead of focusing solely on the negativity and obstacles.

Today I had a child come up to me and say “Ms. Kane... you’re like no other teacher I’ve had. You just... love me no matter what, don’t you?” I sure do, kid.

Today, the class INSISTED that they be able to earn a “Torture the Teacher” session since we got a new student this morning. And of course I obliged. 🤦🏼‍♂️🤣

Some teacher thoughts as I get ready to go into week 2. Kids notice. They notice your joy, and they notice your frustration. I had a student ask me last week "Miss are you always this happy?" I told her yes I am, it's my personality 🙂.

Just one of a million reasons we love Ms. Jewel. How many other custodians can you find engaging with students out at recess?
