One of our women due for release was speaking about the importance of food today. She said the thing she has missed the most about the outside is ‘desi’ (Asian food). She has requested her mum brings her aloo parathas (potato filled chapattis) on her release day

Thinking of everyone in prison on this lovely Bank Holiday..... 24 hr lockdown is inhumane. (Animals in a zoo get treated better) . Many people will suffer mental health problems, where is the respect & dignity for prisoners?

Oh by the way Mbzazi prison in Dowa was quite encouraging. There are only 45 against capacity ya 150. So many hand washing facilities. Social distance rules The young prisoners told me cheekly theyr observing public health guidelines better than us outside.

One of the guys in my book explains what it was like seeing the internet for the first time after spending 27 years inside. I can’t imagine getting thrown into the current work wide web instead of seeing its evolution like we did.

Shame causes guilt which leads to agony and pain. Why are so many shamed for who they are based on preconceived notions?  I for one am not ashamed nor should you be. Be the best you can be. No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes.

Remembering when I was fortunate enough to spend time with family and friends. Standing in front of the fireplace, even in the fireplace is painted onto a canvas. More and more I find things that I appreciate, in the blink of an eye, it can all be taken away.

Am engrossed by 'Rare Birds'. Scott is brilliant at capturing real stories of mainly female prisoners but also other voices (1840s -1950s) in terse, powerful poetry. Highly recommended.
