THREAD I know I’ve lost the battle on this but I still believe outputs & impact case studies should be portable for . Many have precarious careers with lots of short-term contracts with gaps between 1/

Others have career breaks or gaps/moves in employment due to personal & family circumstances. So non-portability could actually be discriminating against women/disabled/caring responsibility 2/

In order to stop a transfer market at the top, we are further disadvantaging many who are already very challenged by a highly competitive & precarious job market who aren’t covered by the term “ECR” 8/8

This does nothing to stop game playing in . We all know people are finding ways around non-portability for outputs (esp once transitional arrangements pass). Academics will continue to personally subsidise unis research 7/

So there are a set of rules about portability for that are supposed to stop game playing. In effect, they disadvantage those who have the misfortune to be precariously employed or had career breaks for whatever reason. This is discrimination 5/

How many academics can really lay claim to the long time period allowed for underpinning research to result in impact by staying with the same employer? Many have to move due to employment market & personal circumstances #4/

Those on teaching only contracts usually get no time & often no financial support for research activities. Part-time academics often do research in their “own” time. Increasingly full-time academics are paying for their own research in time & expenses 3/
