If utilitarians believe that avoiding pain and pursuing pleasure is what goodness is, what would they say about people who think that experiencing pain is pleasure? Is it bad or good? 🤔🤔

“God does not exist” is proposition “A”. 1. If “A” is possibly true then “A” is knowable. 2. “A” is not knowable. 3. Therefore “A” is not possibly true.

This morning, I taught my first class (as prof) in over 3 years. First time teaching Intro to (modern) . Like many , I did not choose the textbook, nor was I given directions for ordering them to the bookstore for students. Lots to figure out on day 1. In 7°F!

Yikes! To *deny* that some things are clear is not the same as saying that it is *clear* that some things are not clear. To *deny* P is not the same as taking yourself to have *proven* once and for all that P is impossible.

I’m only on page 29 and I’m already astonished - I shouldn’t be surprised really but I am:it is so important to be healthily cynical and to really investigate the claims of everyone: especially those who seek to make money on the back of their claims
