A little baby was recently rescued from the most horrific conditions. This sweet little darling is named Uka, and he is estimated to be about two years old. This baby was snatched from the wild forests of , his mother most certainly killed in the process.

What is jeopardizing the rehabilitation process is not tourism but the fact that rehabilitated (and wild orangutans as well) mainly have only fragmented & degraded forest to which they can “return”.

This orangutan is called Bonika, and a few of you expressed concern over her well-being. We are happy to announce that Bonika was rescued by our team back in 2016 after spending six months in captivity.

Surprised to read Gundul “raped” a “Dayak lady.” As far as I know Gundul never raped any Dayak ladies. He did forcibly copulate with our Malayu cook. Malayu& Dayak very different ethnicities.Obviously people relate stories without getting even simple facts straight.

As for the suggestion that if we want orangutan re-introductions to be “successful”,don’t let them hug tourists” I ask where are these hugging tourists? Of the 25,000 tourists visiting the Park in 2017 my guess is less than 10 have hugged an & if so, it’s the same one.

When OFI rescued this little we named her Danielle. She is so pretty and sweet but here was still sad from the experience of becoming an orphan. With every week she becomes happier. She ate some salak (sometimes called snake fruit because of its skin) and took a nap
