A Total Fire Ban has been declared for tomorrow, Tuesday 28 January, for the Southern Ranges area due to forecast warm, dry and windy weather. There are also widespread areas of High to Very fire danger across the state. Discuss now what you will do if fire threatens.

Crews from the US and Canada, who are wrapping up their deployment to the , have held a minutes silence as a mark of respect for the three American crew members killed in yesterday’s Large Air Tanker crash. We thank these crews for their support.

At 12pm, there are 59 bush and grass fires burning across NSW, 28 not contained. More than 1,300 firefighters are using more favourable conditions to slow the spread of fires and strengthen containment lines, ahead of forecast increasing temperatures later in the week.

Fire dangers are just starting to peak - and we're in for a long afternoon and night across many areas of NSW. It's already hit the high 30s in some areas. At midday there's 70+ fires burning, with two at Emergency Warning level. Stay up to date this afternoon.

The Good Good fire (Snowy Monaro) has been downgraded to Advice. Conditions have begun to ease across the fireground. 54 bush and grass fires are burning across NSW, with 20 still to be contained. Crews will work overnight constructing and consolidating containment lines

Our firefighting colleagues from Canada had the opportunity to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Thanks to Sydney for making this happen. A shout out also to Edwina Illman who lead the climb. Edwina is a team leader at BridgeClimb Sydney and also a volunteer.

RAAF A47-005 P-8A Poseidon as "BLACKCAT 50" currently searching for a missing C-130 Large Air Tanker in the Snowy Mountains region of NSW, Australia. NSW RFS confirmed that a C-130 is currently missing and a SAR operation is taking place.

57 bush and grass fires are burning in NSW, 23 to be contained. All fires are at the Advice alert level. Crews have undertaken backburning on the Morton fire overnight, in the Southern Highlands. This vital work was completed to protect homes and to contain the fire.

Fire activity has increased on a number firegrounds in the states south. Increased winds this afternoon continue to push fires towards a number of isolated rural properties. Here the Good Good Fire continues to build east of Cooma.

Total fire bans are now in force for the South Western, Far Western & North Western fire areas. Severe fire danger is forecast. Hot, dry & windy weather will make fires difficult to control. Important that you & your household know what to do if threatened by fire.

69 fires contiune to burn in NSW with 20 to be contained. Firefighters have worked tirelessly to slow the spread of fire and build containment lines ahead of increased fire dangers. Hot and windy conditions are expected to return to many parts of NSW this week.

At 3pm there's 84 bush or grass fires across NSW with nearly 40 yet to be contained. Five fires are at Emergency Warning level. A southerly change is moving up the coast. It's not likely to reach places like Sydney until early tomorrow morning.

Fire danger ratings have eased today, with widespread low-moderate and high fire danger following a southerly change that brought light rain and cooler conditions to fire grounds across the south coast. This change has also seen smoke haze return to Sydney and surrounds.
