Here's what 's structure change does to wind forecasts (from NWS). Left image is yesterday AM forecast, right image is current. Florence didn't weaken, it redistributed its energy in a way not reflected in category. Bigger storm now MORE impactful (esp OBX)!

Here's the unofficial, radar-estimated storm total rainfall from over all NC (actual gauge-measured amounts not included). Using the average rainfall over the state, Florence dropped about 8.04 TRILLION gallons of rain on NC.

UPDATE: Dangerous flooding along Highway 17 east of Topsail Middle School with the road about to wash out as flood waters continue to rise rapidly. Vehicles abandoned just north on Hwy 17

💦As of 9am, Wilmington has recorded 86.79 inches of rainfall so far in 2018... this SMASHES the previous yearly precip. record of 83.65 in. set in 1877... with over 3 months to go! Sadly, this is a record we would have been happy not to break this quickly. 💦
