So happy to share daytime pics of the whole family; dad, mom & 2 pups (there were 3 last week?). Pups were out on their own more this past week. 🥰🦊

Male appears to have an injury on his right side. Doesn't stop him from providing all kinds of food for his growing family. I think there was a kill (cat was wandering last week) & the fox were helping themselves (maybe carrying a spine in 3rd pic?).

Those teeny tiny Casuarina glauca that grow on headlands are awesome and structurally different to their typical form when they grow in brackish swamps (below from Butlers Creek, Kioloa).

The answer to trivia is - the EYES! The eyes of a growing flatfish will migrate from one side of its body 👁️ ^ 👁️ to the other 👁️👁️^ as it shifts to a bottom-dwelling lifestyle because once it stays on the bottom, there's only one way to look - up!

Our newest backyard “critter”! An oriole! works so hard to bring in a variety of birds & this one is such a beauty! We also have 3 varieties of woodpeckers, plus blue jays, cardinals, the occasional hummingbird and lots of little chickadees, etc.

Sometimes the critters leave enough pics of themselves behind to stitch together in a video. The large black from last week left some good ones…followed by the cinnamon coloured bear. Wonder if they are both males (??) 🐻🤔

On a dusky walk last night, I found a glow-worm! Literally looked like someone had dropped a little led light, so cool!!

What a difference nearly a week makes, but it’s tricky to learn to jump when you’re tiny! A little beaker update 😍

We’ve had a wild duck (Mrs Beaker) nesting outside our back door. For the last 3 years, she’s made her nest here every year. Today, this year’s eggs hatched 😍💚
