Lord, prayer is a delicious banquet, but my excuses are paltry. I’m too busy, I need to hurry. I’m not feeling the vibe. Forgive me, and help me take time each day to enjoy the banquet. And thank you 1000 times for the invitation. Amen. (Luke 14.15-18 REB).

God of compassion, you know my heart. When things feel too heavy to carry alone, let me share the burden with you. Help me to feel your life-giving love with each breath that I take. Amen.

God, Your Son Jesus promised, “You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Thank You for the self-giving sacrifice of the men and women who have served our country in the cause of truth, freedom, and peace.

As my ordination to the priesthood approaches in a few weeks, I'm grateful that our ordination services look more like Timothy's (the laying on of hands mentioned in 2 Timothy 1) than that of Aaron and his sons (blood splattered everywhere in Leviticus 8).

I'm always quite pleased with myself when Psalm 48 comes up in and I get my mouth around this verse successfully: "as when the east wind shatters the ships of Tarshish."
