Apparently Anthony Yarde & trainer Tunde Ajayi do not believing in sparring, did none in preparation for the bout. That's like a hurdler going to the Olympics & saying they don't believe in jumping. Just when I thought I'd heard it all...

What an impressive performance from Sergey Kovalev. Surviving that brutal 8th round to stop a much younger, faster, stronger opponent. And Yarde proved he has substance on the world stage. Great fight.

Looking over these stats again, noticed that Yarde landed exactly FOUR jabs in rounds 5-11. Literally connected on 4 out of 98 jabs thrown in those 7 rounds (4% accuracy). I’ll say it again - Jabs Matter.

Game plan for is simple: If you’re Kovalev you wanna jab Yarde’s head off & take him into deep waters. If you’re Yarde you wanna apply constant pressure & work the body. What’s your pick? Get on record!

I normally like the commentary from Ward and Bradley, but they’ve missed several things tonight.

Kovalev landed 115 jabs (including 15 to the body) to only 18 for Yarde, and at nearly 3X the accuracy. Overall Kovalev out-landed Yarde in all but 2 rounds, the 7th & 8th (the only rounds I scored for the challenger).

Despite what you may have heard, Tom Loeffler is still the managing director of GGG Promotions.

Tyson Fury says Top Rank made offers to Povetkin, Pulev, Miller and others but they all turned it down. That’s why he’s fighting Wallin.

8-2 Kovalev after ten. What an impressive comeback from that brutal 8th round where he was all but out on his feet. Yarde has also proved he belongs tonight.

I like the way Brandon Figueroa digs to the body.

Hrgovic draws comparisons to the Klitschko brothers, but he's nowhere near as athletic, quick or coordinated. Looks comfortable in the ring though. Throws punches very loosely and fluid.

Kovalev clearly takes the 9th, very impressive comeback round from him. 7 rounds to 2 for the champ.

Yarde did get a couple good body shots in there in the 5th, but this has been a cautious boxing lesson from Kovalev so far, 50-45.

40-36 Kovalev after four. Yarde needs to step it up.

Yarde just had his best round in the 7th. First round in the fight you could give him.

Buddy McGirt and the rest of Team Kovalev have arrived in Chelyabinsk; Anthony Yarde and crew are in town as well. Looking forward to this light heavyweight title fight Saturday night (afternoon here in the USA) on ESPN+.
