This eclosed from its chrysalis just fine but had no energy and could barely fly. Here it's being taught to use its to drink honey water solution. Then S/he took off! The things one has to learn in order to give monarchs a fighting chance to survive!

My menagerie. I shouldn’t be surprised, but amidst all the maturing & molting, a dead monarch or a predated catch my eye. This caterpillar, may have been felled by a parasitoid emergence –a common sight when their population density is high.

We planted milkweed in a back corner about 2 yrs ago. Rabbits tried their best to eat it. Then it just took off this year. Today just saw our first caterpillar. 😍🎉
