is excellent. Very well written, well performed and features a story that I've not really seen before. The way the plot unravels keeps you engaged all the way to its eventual conclusion and it's great. Also Kelvin Harrison Jr. is truly tremendous and continues to shine.

Julius Onah’s is a fascinating enigma. This is a film on how American race/class system simplifies people, limits them to neat narrative boxes. But so does the US cinema! Onah (clearly inspired by Haneke) plays with genre tropes and our expectations to prove his point.

Saw really boring drama/thriller today. and I found Luce to be worse than after the wedding. And I didn’t even finish the latter. We just left the screen

“tackles questions of prejudice, privilege, code-switching, sex and race in 21st-century America, and the characters spend much of the running time declaiming the script’s themes at each other in lieu of having genuine conversations” ☞

Amazed more people aren't talking about and how goddamn good and piercing it is. Julius Onah ups the tension to an unbearably beautiful level and Kelvin Harrison Jr. is an absolute marvel. Deserves more notice and momentum going into the awards season.

Feels like the script was written on the back of a napkin, the cast give solid performances to these caricatures but everything about the film is ridiculous. Skip this and watch We Need To Talk About Kevin which is infinitely superior in every way. 2/5

There’s a very complicated and compelling film called about the burdens of Black exceptionalism and the expectations of white saviors. I recommend it, mostly because I need someone to unpack it with me.
