Next week should have been Sam's last week at primary school. I look at all the other yr 6s and I wonder who he would be like, what he would be doing... all these things we will never know.

Since last month I searched news about a friend of mine with which I was very closed. We used to run with our bikes all long the Garda sea. We were young an filled with dreams. Now all is over. My friend is dead, and I had not even the chance to say him goodbye.

“I was adopted as an infant and spent my entire life wondering about the family I lost, and the family my children lost. If family preservation had been on the forefront, this would not be my story.” -Courtney Dobson •

: One of the scariest things as year 2 turned into year 3 was realizing I was forgetting the sound of his voice, the smell of his skin, the touch of his hand. I fought to hold on but in the end, out of self-preservation...I released him.

Entering week 4 without my husband, feeling a sense of disbelief that he died. Carrying out routine tasks then becoming overwhelmed with grief. My 2 adult children feel the same, trying to function for their own kids but are bereft without their dad.

I took my grandmother to a portrait of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. She too has lost her husband, but I hope it gave her comfort that even after losing the love of your life, you can remain strong because you have to. To those that have lost their partner, be strong

There were once two kids in Camaguey Province, Cuba, who fell in love, did their best according to their unassailable ethical outlook, instilled a sense of wonder for life itself in their children. They had nothing and everything: between them, there lay The Universe.

Real loss cannot be described. We learn from it, as a traveler learns that a shallow puddle sometimes becomes a dark, murky swamp that rises up to consume. The cold waters of fear and grief makes us yearn for the warmth we left behind. Rise, but remember & try to teach.

I suppose that is why we like to read poetry and other such things, we discover thoughts and feelings that mirror our own. We are all going through remarkably similar trials, and In the end we aren't really that different are we? -Samuel Decker Thompson
