Just figured out why there is such a battle between wanting to hire people with experience, and wanting to hire someone who "has potential". It is because academic libraries are overly cautious when it comes to risk tolerance.

There were 215 library-related jobs posted to HigherEd Jobs in the month of April. 46 were part-time. The word "salary" appeared in 80 posts, but an actual salary range was only included 42 times. That's a little less than 20% of posts.
