For our counties of responsibility, 2019 has been really quiet on the severe weather front compared to the past several years. We have only issued 13 severe t-storm warnings so far this year, and no tornado warnings yet.

How fast does hail fall? We only have estimates about the speed hail falls. One estimate is that a small hailstone roughly 1/2" in diameter falls at about 20 mph...while baseball to softball sized stones can reach speeds near a major league fastball-100 mph ⚾️⛈️

Here are some of the stronger wind gusts observed across southwest Kansas between 1 pm and 4 pm Today (4/25). These gusty winds this afternoon will decrease early this evening. After sunset the north winds will fall back into the 10 to 15 mph range.

Mostly sunny high of 75 today with a north wind this afternoon 20-25mph gusting up to 34mph. Rain/storms possible Fri night-small hail and gusty winds with the strongest storms. Expect a nice weekend with sunshine before rain/storm chances come back in late Sun night.
