The 70s Guy Jul 12
Ian Dury's album "New Boots and Panties!!" was released on 30 Sept 1977, and sold over 300,000 copies in the UK. The album's title derives from Dury's habit of buying clothes second hand and refers to the only items of clothing he insisted on buying new.

Ian Robins Dury died on this day in 2000. He was a genius who hotwired funk energy, punk attitude and music hall to produce some of the most original songs of all time. I miss him to this day

Ian Dury was one one of few true originals of the English music scene. The only artist to combine the energy and excitement of rock 'n' roll with fun and the bawdy humour, wit and home spun philosophy of music-halls and of his native Essex. died 2000, aged 57.

today in 1979, Ian Dury & The Blockheads were at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick' Chaz Jankel often re-tells the story that after recording it he phoned his mother and told her, "I've just recorded my first number one".
