THIS IS JUST TO SAY We have retracted the Hugo that you were awarded and which you were probably feeling pretty good about. Forgive me your porn is embarrassing and you are the wrong kind of fans.

, accepting their Hugo, ask for the lights to be raised & for its community to stand & co-accept. Half the auditorium stands up, including a lot of the nominees in other categories.

Fanfic is queerness, community, folk art, literature, protest. It’s fun, sex, love, belonging, comfort, challenge. It’s finding the words to say what the story should’ve, could’ve, said all along, if things were different. It’s saying β€˜the story belongs to us.’

So let's talk about my gripe. Gardner Dozois was one of the greatest editors in the history of sff. Over the last 40 years, I would place him second only to Ellen Datlow in terms of influence and contribution to genre short fiction.

I'm not saying you have to share your favorite novellas and novelettes of 2019, I'm only saying that it would help me out a lot in December when I'm panic requesting stuff from my library. πŸ‘€

The Archive of our Own (AO3) Hugo will be added to the travelling set that goes to all Worldcons, so fanfic writers if you get a chance to go to make sure to get a photo with the Hugo you earned!

Everybody saying they want to put "Hugo Award Winner" on their resume. That's all fun and games until your new boss asks to see your work and all you have is filthy 7th Heaven ABO, MLP sex slaves, and Luke/Leia/Vader threesomes.

CONGRATS to Archive of Our Own for winning a Hugo Award! Exciting & well deserved! I wrote this piece after the nom about how this recognition is a triumph for both diversity in science fiction AND diversity in technology development.

Because millions of fanfic writers who make up celebrated the Archive’s accomplishments with jokes about everyone winning, those in charge of the want to clarify who won the award. Because as much as we write, they think we can’t read.
