Now, we also have to run those fans through the fan backplane...and there’s no room. So, pulled out the fan backplane, drilled holes, and hooray, fan headers are now freely accessible, and much cleaner.

Replaced my failed Supermicro 2U with an EMC Isilon s200 - still uses an X8 SM board, but has a really nicely engineered fan and backplane daughterboard to support the 24x 2.5” drive slots - however, it did require some modifications...
