Cannabis problems vary substantially by state in USA. This seems to tally quite closely with legal access to cannabis, both "medical" & "recreational adult only" regimes. Given how lax regulation is for "medical" cannabis, it seems to function as de facto legalization.

I am sure you have signatories of the that have said strange things on Twitter, too. But calling others "pro-death"? Yikes! It is quite strange that scientists are mocked for expressing uncertainty when everybody cheers at this article in the BMJ.
