Yes, it's known that can have a negative side effects and certainly effects memory. That's why it must only be used as a very last resort with the patient's willing, fully informed consent. It can help for some with very entrenched difficulties.

must be used as a last resort only, when all other treatments have not worked and the patient wishes it. It can help with certain diagnoses but it does have the proven side effect of memory loss - hence cautionary use.
