Sporting an impressive beard, Duke Pāoa Kāhinu Mokoe Hulikoholā Kahanamoku, aged 29 or 30, on the beach in Los Angeles in 1920. He died 51 years ago today in Honolulu. He earned 3 gold + 2 silver Olympic medals in swimming. E ola lō‘ihi o Duke.
