I've received an email from @netflix asking me to "finalise the signup" when I don't remember registering. Worried about the identity theft etc went to a chat & discovered this is a "PROMOTIONAL EMAIL".
I've highlighted key parts & chat screen.

Today in data privacy ethics: I visited a website development company's website yesterday and today got a spam email from them. I also was added to as many as 5 (FIVE) of their newsletters. No, they didn't have an unsubscribe button ("update preferences"). #darkpattern

Paie ton #darkpattern sur @Interflora qui te sélectionne en douce une option de livraison sur un an, à 2x le prix de la livraison unitaire, pendant le tunnel d'achat. Honteux.

Slowly the #senate is embracing the #digital era. Bipartisan legislation to ban manipulative retailers #darkPattern has been induced by R and D. Officially supported by tech company including #Microsoft fischer.senate.gov/public/index.c…

#coursera doesn't allow users to remove their profile photo. Wonder what the use case was: don't allow users to remove a photo (#darkpattern) or the thinking that users would only want to change their photo. I think a yellow smiley face would suffice for such a #UserExperience pic.twitter.com/KjF7NGHZxQ

Agreed on this #ux #darkpattern, the default is to share info, with no obvious confirmation when you choose not to share your info.

We created this video about #ConfirmShaming - the #UX #DarkPattern that shames you into choosing 1 button over another. See the video here: youtu.be/SIkqDGfEXjo pic.twitter.com/slmEl4UzO6

Turning off @airbnb notifications. I can’t stand companies that abuse notifications for marketing-driven panic-mongering. #ux #darkpattern

I've spent time today deleting useless accounts/services I no longer/or have ever used. The number of them that DON'T give you an option to delete but make you email them to do it for you is embarrassing, and asserts my belief they are not worth doing business with. #darkpattern

Yes, the pressure is good and yes, this ad design is a #DarkPattern. But citizens blame the government when they are ripped off. Scammers position themselves as the government in their SEO and on their site. Even when they do realize they've been scammed, they blame gov.

Roach Motel - also know as the "Hard to cancel". This pattern makes it easy for the user to sign up for a service but hard to cancel it. #darkpattern bit.ly/2TuRkVG pic.twitter.com/iPdOn0FFQv

Serious contender for top #DarkPattern. While MLMs are predatory by nature, this checkbox to make someone think it was free is pure rapacious.

This #darkpattern seems to be getting really popular. Hit unsubscribe, land on a screen with a bit prominent button and without reading or removing the checks you're about to potentially subscribe to more undesirable content. pic.twitter.com/Yx6uZWW0hY

@TfL Are you consciously using a #darkpattern on the site to manage Oyster cards auto top-up? Tried to change settings, as I can't spend £40 on a single journey, but ended up with £££ top-ups without selecting any amount. This can't be reversed and users can't cancel auto top-up
