Can occur without an Electrolyte? It should also be pointed out that galvanic corrosion does not only occur in water. Bimetallic corrosion can only occur when two electrochemically different metals are close to one another.

What causes ? Different metals and alloys have different electrochemical potentials (or corrosion potentials) in the same electrolyte. The difference in voltage causes this bimetallic corrosion.

Does galvanizing ? With hot-dip galvanization, all the surfaces of the material are dipped into, and completely coated with, molten zinc. Corrosion of zinc is very slow, which gives it an extended life while it protects the base metal.
