The Battle of Honey Springs, OK was fought in 1863. It was the largest engagement in what is now Oklahoma, and was unique in the in that most of the soldiers engaged were not white. It was an important Union victory in establishing control of the Indian Territory.

The Burning of Chambersburg . . . 2,000 people would be left homeless. The town, in ruins. The Confederates would never move North again. News of the burning spread quickly throughout Union camps & it fueled another fire in the troops. .

I'm watching CNN's and remembering that the daughter of this little girl (born in 1842) lived to see a man on the moon. Crazy, isn't it? That's Nina Powell who lived through the as a young woman. Her parents were born in 1804 & 1807.
