over the past two hours with 1 min GOES-16 GLM Total Optical Energy (TOE) lightning data overlaid. TOE is essentially what the satellite sees from space over each 1 minute period. This generation of satellite data is simply amazing. 🛰️🌀

Hurricane Dorian, now a Monstrous storm, is now on final approach to the Bahamas. It may stay over them, at maximum intensity, for as long as 20-30 hours. You guys down there are in my thoughts.

Hurricane 's eye wall has almost reached the north western Bahama Islands of Great Abaco. This hurricane is now a Catagory 5 with sustained winds upwards of 160 mph.

Each advisory on gets worse. It's at triple the power of the last night. Major w/ strengthening. Winds up to 180 mph and gusts of 220 mph. Storm surge for 18-23ft. Island chain sits 13 ft above sea level. These numbers combined with the human impact 😱.
