Another takeaway from Merkel's doorstep is the confirmation of Germany's commitment to "by 2050". But interestingly, she adds in the same breath that this means Germany "will have to increase all, or at least most, of our 2030 climate commitments". This is big.

Let's be positive for once: if the 2050 target is confirmed, this will be a major achievement for the EU. It is also a rather unexpected turnaround given the deep divisions that were still apparent on the subject in recent weeks.
