Fine example of American journalism (it’s long!), John obituary reminds us name came from Nelson’s flagship at Aboukir Bay, Battle of the Nile, 1798. What a man.

A sad day - goodbye to my folk hero John Bogle. I was an early investor in Vanguard funds. An index visionary I so admired and at times debated. He spoke at my daughter’s Blair Academy graduation (with grandson here). He exemplified I chose investments as a career.

So sorry to hear about the death of Jack . He revolutionised investment and taught us all some important lessons: 1. Put end investors first 2. Invest for the long term 3. Keep costs as low as possible and 4. Be prepared to think differently from the crowd. A great man.

A piece of my first real paycheck in Sep 93 went to a low cost index fund, and Jack's philosophy has been an important part of my career - high info intermediation, lowest and lowering cost, simple to buy and own, high service levels, targeted use of tech.
