Let's talk about , and why some antifascists wear masks. "Antifa" are anyone who stand up against fascism, masked or otherwise. Black bloc and antifa are not interchangeable terms. Black bloc is not a group but a tactic some use, sometimes.

Antifascists are people. Many choose non-violence. And not only that, but many choose not to mask their faces either. is a tactic. The blackbloc are our protectors, willing to use any means necessary. But they are not the entirety of the antifascist movement.

So much great stuff coming from and US comrades today, as they prepare to oppose the far right and seek to inform people in various ways about antifascism. This thread is a good primer into tactics.

AMEN!! It was brutal! I was lucky to have the & around to help protect me. Without the people who jumped in front of me or took the blow for me, I could've been really hurt. Thanks for the support!

It's an actual matter of life or death whether or not security forces see me, an African-American, as violent. So to be politically effective and prevent unnecessary violence, it's better to appear nonviolent. Spin it however you want to: puts black lives at risk.

From a security perspective, symbolizes the willingness, if not the intent, to utilize violence when necessary. Doesn't make it true, just how the police see it. Violence includes destruction of property or intimidation tactics, like storming a property by force.

Hell yeah!! I wheeled my butt up there on my own! I was proud to stand as a deterrence to violence. If the police wanted at the then they were going to have to go through us! Pisses me off people think I'm allowing myself to be used. I chose to be there & will again!
