BBC just interviewed this guy about the Baden-Powell statue and I’m pretty sure he’s telling us he’s murdered a lot of people!

This direct, heartfelt response of locals defending statue is what increasing numbers of people feel, perhaps said w less humour/more anger. Irony: as many look on aghast at statue wars, even tenuous link to initial horror at brutal killing of George Floyd= sidelined

It's time all these statues were removed and destroyed. Robert Baden Powell was a racist, homophobic and a Nazi sympathiser! How many more reasons do these people need?

What is the normative reference point we use to decide which statues stay and which go? If we go by today's standards 90% of all statues have to go, as our Western history is build on racism, antisemitism, Islamophobia, white supremacism, religious fundamentalism...

Many people in 1937 didn't want a war and many good people tried to 'reach out' to the Germans. And then I read this - and now I'm not so sure that we should be so forgiving. I had no idea he had done this - did you?

In they are taking down the statue of campaign led by Corrie drew ex labour candidate for east. Corrie is an extremist who openly supported antisemities who were suspended by labour. Why is a racist allowed to decide on statues?
