I'm encountering Common Loons so much more than usual this summer. In contrast I haven't taken a shot of my usual subject, Pacific Loon. My routine must be shaken up this year. I was going to checkup on this loon this morning but access is closed. Otter Lake JBER

Bald Eagle dropping in for salmon dinner. Although plenty there for the taking, the eagles pretty much limited themselves to eating leftovers from the sea lions or whatever remained stranded at low tide but ignored the live fish. Valdez

Greater Scaup with brood in tow exits stage right while I drift by the opposite direction. Greater Scaup tend to nest later than most other ducks around here so there are still plenty of broods around. Valdez

My mom called me this morning & told me to look out my back porch. When I did a gigantic immature bald eagle took flight. I could almost reach out & touch it. I've never seen one that big--we even thought it might be a Condor! But it's just a big eagle. (Not my photo.)
