Enjoyed a sunset hike in the this evening. Proud to be a public landowner. Hard to tell where public land ends and private begins. That’s the beauty. But there is so much work to do if we are going to fulfill the promise of the Park.

Our early fall sampling continues with trips to Brooktrout Lake, the Ha-De-Ron-Dah wilderness, and a few ponds closer to home. Watch for moose!

Wondering where to go leaf peeping? I suggest the central (Old Forge, Inlet, Raquette Lake). It's close enough to WNY that it's a manageable drive for a long weekend trip. Columbus weekend is typically peak in terms of leaf color...and visitors. Book now!

Who wore it better? There are lots of big old trees dusted with algae along the Indian Carry portage near Coreys. Can you ID these trunks by their bark? (Choices: hemlock, red maple, white pine, yellow birch)

No toilet paper blooms, no branches cut off trees to be used for firewood, no garbage. How delightful to hike through the lesser-used areas of the High Peaks Wilderness!
