I recently dreamed that one of my colleagues was wrongfully accused of murder, and because of the trial, could not teach their fall class. I feel like an "oh god I have to solve a murder so I don't have to teach an extra class" anxiety dream is like next level .

My father passed away at the start of the summer & was so distracted at that time that I submitted a revised version of a paper, but somehow have no copies in my computer. Luckily had emailed a copy to my co-author, which in hindsight appears to be a good practice.

As a First Gen , I found that I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Do non-First Gens also feel the same way? Is this a universal experience? Other First Gens, share your thoughts, too!

Anyone got any experience with Monzo or Revolut? Not sure which would be the best to get. I'd basically need it to pay my rents in pounds (I get paid in euros)

Just submitted my first paper as a fellow. Not exactly Nobel prize type stuff and not in my main area of research. But we have to take the wins when we get them in academia. .

This summer has been hard. I lost my Dad suddenly in June & moved to a new state for a new job. I haven’t accomplished much research/writing. But I’m finding my feet. And more than anything I’m grateful for the privilege to choose family over work when necessary.

The journal issue with my first paper has gone to print which has prompted a very interesting conversation with my parents about where the money goes. Trying to explain paying for access and the pleasure of publishing has been fun.

Wasting time on Twitter Bc I don’t want to be wasting time writing my reappointment application. Anyone else rebelling against the time suck of ‘self-justification’ by wasting time elsewhere?

Do academic reviewers really need to be insulting and patronizing in their reviews? How is this intended to help the author?
