Back to back today: THE FRONT RUNNER & FIRST MAN. Both feel uniquely American & seem, to me, to be grappling w/ a notion of heroism or American excellence in some way. Reitman & Chazelle each complicate the popular narrative well to avoid easy answers/assessments.

Of course the first thing I had to watch at was Sebastian Silva’s latest film, Fistful of Dirt. Moved by the realism he jumps off from and mesmerized by the magic he cinematically draws. mereces mas ternura.

Quite a moment hearing Redford discuss retiring from acting with ⁦⁩ at its world premiere. “I’ve been doing this since I was 21. I’ve given my soul to it and I can’t think of a better project to go out on...But never say never.”
